Friday the 11th November through to Sunday the 13th with a practise day available on Thursday the 10th.
Welcome to the South Island Open 2011. While its been a long and shattered path we are excited to finally have a date set and the event in sight. The track is looking great and local members are looking forward to racing against competitors from other clubs. An added bonus is production entrant Grant Crawshay. Our club has a strong Production class and they will be ready and keen to mix it with an outsider.
Please consider entering, if accommodation is a problem we will look at billeting you with a local member. We will also be offering track side sports massages, this to help visitors recover from the fierce southern competition. Replacement tyres, tubes and Kart parts will be on hand and need I mention that we will be running a huge raffle with a range of prizes, many suitable for ladies. Tickets will be available from the moment you arrive in Christchurch, so watch out. As well the Saturday night meal will be really good value.
The NZBAI will now run the NZ open at blokart Heaven in Papamoa from September the 28th through to October the 2nd.
RNZAF Ohakea Air Base on 5th and 6th of Feburary.
The Annual North Island Champs held at our fantastic "secret" (yes it has radar dishes and spy equipment) venue near Palmerston North on 4th to 6th June. This event is designed to be more fun and less serious than the NZ Open. If numbers permit there is a division for new racers.
6th and 7th August, Blokart Heaven, Papamoa
On the Saturday we have some fun BAI races,
a social gathering in the evening, followed by the NZBAI AGM on Sunday morning and the Bay Club's race day in the afternoon.
The Canterbury Blokart Club are hosting a weekend away, beach sailing on the South Island's West Coast. Taking place from Friday the 2nd of December to Sunday the 4th, the venue is Carters or Okari beach. There is plenty of wide hard packed sand and the wind is usually strong. There are about 17 Blokarters, plus family members planning to attend, most are from Christchurch and a few from Nelson.
All Blokart enthusiasts are welcome to join the group. Please contact Peter Kingsbury at for more information or visit Canterbury Club's website.
This is a very popular event, held twice a year at 90 Mile Beach by the ABC. The 2011 dates are 17-20 March and 24 to 27 of November (plus a few more days for most because it is so good).
This is a fantastic sailing event (as opposed to racing) with informal fun charges up and down the rock hard sand of Ninety Mile Beach. Almost guaranteed wind because it's only a 15 minute drive to the east coast where we use Tokerau Beach for any wind from the north or east. Accommodation is in cabins/motel units at the camping ground (we take it over) right beside the beach - just rig up at the base camp and sail down the road onto the beach.Friday night is an all in barbeque and there is always a theme for the Saturday night when we have caterers in. After dinner we have tall tales, a variety show, and prizegiving. This is always a popular weekend with sailors from all over the country and some from Europe attending who have timed their trips especially for the event. We regularly get about 50-60 blokarts in action. Details at http://www.abc.gen.nz.
Bunning's Warehouse Auckland Blokart Club Championships will be held at Ardmore Airfield on 5-6 November.
This event is open to members of all blokart clubs and features some great prizes courtesy of Bunning's Warehouse and a continuous barbeque through the day. Again there are divisions for under and over 85kg and a C Division (casual sailor) which is for those new to blokart sailing or those who are yet to feel confident with the racing in the two other d ivisions.
We have permission to use an extra 250 metres of runway especially for this event, and we have recently eased off and sealed some sharp corners to enable better use of the taxiway. A youth trophy will be presented to the best performing youth (at school) sailor.
This event will also include the Kaimai Challenge for which points are awarded for club results and a trophy is up for grabs. A feature of the weekend is the ABC barbecue on Saturday night to which all are invited. Details at www.abc.gen.nz.
Pre Christmas Twilight series for under and over 85kg and a C Division (casual sailor) which is for those new to blokart sailing or those who are yet to feel confident with the racing in the two other divisions. To date C division has been smaller and therefore less pressure in the dial up. See www.abc.gen.nz for the dates of the five race nights.
